GLP-1 Receptor Agonism

The compound activates the receptor for glucagon-like peptide-1, a hormone the gut releases after eating. Those receptors sit on pancreatic beta cells, in the brain, and in the stomach and blood vessels, so a single receptor action produces several separate effects: insulin release, slowed stomach emptying, and reduced appetite signalling. The insulin effect is glucose-dependent, meaning it is largely switched on by a rising blood sugar rather than acting regardless of it.

Why it matters here

What it is not

GLP-1 receptor agonist names a receptor action, not a class of interchangeable products, and it says nothing about potency, half-life or dosing interval. GLP-1 is also not GLP-2: same precursor protein, different receptor, different tissue.
