The molecule is obtained from botanical material. In practice most plant-derived entries are small molecules, such as polyphenols, alkaloids and glycosides, rather than peptides, though plant peptides do exist. As with any extract the product is defined partly by its process, so a stated origin does not by itself fix the composition.
Why it matters here
Origin often explains why a compound on this site is typed as a small molecule or a cofactor rather than a peptide, which in turn changes what a route or vehicle field can mean for it.
What it is not
Plant-derived is not a safety or potency statement, and it is not the same as plant-inspired: a molecule first found in a plant and then made in a factory is Synthetic here. A protein expressed in plant cells is Recombinant, because there the plant is the factory rather than the source.
