Swirl vs Shake

How to handle the vial once the liquid is in. The instruction is to roll it slowly between your fingers or swirl it gently, then set it down and let it finish dissolving on its own. Shaking hard whips air through the liquid and produces foam. Dissolving commonly takes minutes and sometimes longer, and that waiting is normal rather than a sign that something is wrong.

Why it matters here

Peptides are large folded molecules, and the boundary between air and liquid that vigorous shaking creates is where that kind of molecule is damaged; this is the standard handling caution for proteins in general, not a claim about any one compound. Foam is also opaque and clings to the barrel, so it makes the volume genuinely hard to read even when nothing has gone wrong.

What it is not

Foam is not undissolved powder, and slow dissolving is not a failure. The common mistake is treating it as a problem to solve with force when the answer is time: a vial left standing will usually clear on its own, whereas shaking makes the reading harder and adds the one stress worth avoiding.

Also called

Rolling, gentle inversion and swirling all describe the same slow movement. Reconstituting is loosely called mixing, which is unfortunate wording, because mixing suggests precisely the vigour this step exists to avoid.
