Wound Healing Cascade

The ordered sequence tissue follows after injury: clotting, then inflammation, then proliferation with new blood vessels, new cells and a provisional matrix, and finally remodelling, which can run for months. The phases overlap and depend on one another, so a compound acting in one phase can help or hinder depending on when it is present. Records tagged here concern the sequence as a whole.
Why it matters here
It explains why healing claims are so hard to grade: two studies that appear to say the same thing often differ in phase, tissue and the timepoint at which anything was measured.
What it is not
Not interchangeable with the reported outcome Tissue Repair: the cascade is the biology, the outcome is what was measured afterwards. Faster closure is also not better healing, since speed and final tensile strength are separate measurements and can move in opposite directions.
