A reported outcome category covering sexual desire and sexual function. Desire is measured by validated questionnaires and event diaries; function is measured separately, through erectile function scales or physiological recording. In animal research the endpoints are behavioural counts, which are not the same construct as reported human desire.
Why it matters here
Desire and function are frequently reported together but respond differently, so a record establishing one is not evidence for the other.
What it is not
Arousal, desire and erectile function are three different things: a compound acting on blood flow can address function without touching desire, and one acting centrally can do the reverse. Rodent mounting counts are also not a measure of desire in people.
