Stored at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius, the range a domestic fridge's main compartment holds when it is working properly. That excludes freezing at one end and excludes the door shelves, which swing warmer each time the door opens. Both lyophilised powders and reconstituted solutions commonly carry a cold requirement of this kind.
Why it matters here
Refrigeration is the second input a beyond-use date is derived from here. The 28-day window after first puncture belongs to bacteriostatic water held at 2 to 8 degrees, and neither half of that pair produces the date on its own.
What it is not
Check whether a storage value describes the sealed powder or the reconstituted solution, because for the same vial they are often different. A powder held at room temperature can become a solution that needs a fridge the moment diluent goes in.
