PEPTIDE CORPUS

Reported Outcome

Skin Quality

Last updated

A reported outcome category covering measured properties of skin: wrinkle depth by profilometry or imaging, elasticity and firmness by cutometry, hydration, dermal thickness on ultrasound, and blinded photographic grading. It also carries the appearance claims made for cosmetic products. Topical and injected evidence should be read separately, because passage through intact skin is a real barrier for most peptides.

Why it matters here

Cosmetic studies are frequently small, unblinded and run by the manufacturer, which is precisely the case the evidence ladder exists to make visible on a record.

What it is not

Collagen production in a dish is not a skin outcome: fibroblasts making more collagen in culture says nothing about whether a cream reaches the dermis in a living person, and this is the most common substitution in cosmetic peptide marketing. Hair is also not skin, though hair support sits in this alias list.

Also called

Dermal means of the dermis, the deeper layer beneath the epidermis. A claim about dermal repair therefore implies the compound reached that layer, which is considerably stronger than a claim about surface appearance.

Compounds carrying this term

None on file yet. This term is in the controlled vocabulary but no compound record currently uses it — which is a statement about our coverage, not about the term.
