Selectively killing senescent cells, meaning cells that have permanently stopped dividing but persist and secrete inflammatory signals. A true senolytic pushes those cells into programmed cell death while sparing healthy ones. In the peptide literature the described route is disrupting the interaction between FOXO4 and p53 that keeps senescent cells alive.

Why it matters here

The definition is specific and checkable, because the claim is that cells were removed. That makes it easy to see when a record claims senolytic action but has only measured an inflammatory marker.

What it is not

A senolytic clears senescent cells; a senomorphic quietens what those cells secrete without removing them. The two are routinely sold as one thing and are not the same claim. Senolytic is also an alias on our Anti-Aging category, so the same word resolves to a mechanism and to a shelf.

Also called

FOXO4 disruption names the specific molecular route described for the peptide compounds in this class. It is not a general synonym for senolytic action, which covers small molecules working by other routes.
