Sleep & Recovery
Last updated
Compounds whose principal reported action is on sleep and on the restorative processes that run during it: how quickly sleep arrives, how much of the night is spent in deep slow-wave stages, and the timing of the body clock. Recovery is grouped with sleep here because much of what the body repairs overnight is measured through sleep. Compounds acting on repair of a specific damaged tissue are filed under Healing & Tissue Repair instead.
Why it matters here
Sleep is one of the few areas on this site with an objective measure available, so it is worth checking whether a claim rests on sleep-laboratory recording or on a self-reported questionnaire, because those sit on different rungs.
What it is not
Sedation and sleep quality are not the same thing: a compound that shortens the time taken to fall asleep can reduce the deep stages once you are there, so improves sleep may describe two opposite findings. Circadian is narrower again, referring to the clock's timing rather than to depth or duration.
