Delivery onto the mucous membrane lining the nose, usually as a metered spray or as drops. Absorption crosses the nasal lining into the bloodstream and avoids the gut and the liver's first pass, but the fraction absorbed is variable and depends on the device, the volume delivered and the state of the nose. Dose arrives per actuation rather than per millilitre.
Why it matters here
A nasal device delivers a fixed volume per spray, so concentration rather than syringe volume sets the amount per spray, and a mass figure on a record is not usable until you know how many actuations it was divided across.
What it is not
Intranasal is not Inhaled: nasal delivery targets the lining of the nose and inhalation targets the lung, and a study on one does not carry over to the other.
